Support for the journey into motherhood — before, during, and after pregnancy.
Maternal Wellness
Motherhood can be beautiful, overwhelming, exciting, exhausting, and everything in between. There can be so much focus on preparing for the baby that it's easy to forget to prepare for you.
The Maternal Wellness Program was created to provide a space for mothers and mothers-to-be to focus on their emotional wellbeing as they prepare for pregnancy, navigate pregnancy, and adjust to life after having a baby.
Whether you're thinking about becoming a mother, expecting your first or another baby, newly postpartum, or finding yourself struggling with the transition into motherhood, you don't have to navigate it alone.
My work with mothers is informed by specialized education in perinatal mental health. I have completed training in Perinatal Mood Disorders: Components of Care and Advanced Perinatal Mental Health Psychotherapy, and I am a member of Postpartum Support International (PSI).
I continue to build my knowledge in this area so that the support I provide can be informed by current perinatal mental-health education and best practices.
A Perinatal-Informed Approach
What I Offer
Individual Maternal Wellness Sessions
Individual counselling provides a private, supportive space to talk openly about the emotional side of motherhood.
Sessions can be tailored to where you are in your journey and may include support with:
Preparing emotionally for pregnancy and motherhood
Adjusting to the transition into motherhood
Anxiety, worry, and overwhelm
Changes in identity and sense of self
Expectations around motherhood
Adjusting to changes in relationships and family life
Confidence in your new role as a mother
Emotional wellbeing during pregnancy
Postpartum adjustment
Making space for yourself while caring for your baby
Navigating the many emotions that can come with becoming a parent
There is no expectation that you should be enjoying every moment or have everything figured out. This is a space where you can be honest about how you're really doing.
Postnatal Support
The early weeks after having a baby can be a major adjustment. My six-week postnatal support option is designed to provide continued emotional support during this important transition.
Rather than being a single check-in, this option provides one session per week for six weeks, giving you a consistent space to talk, reflect, and receive support as you adjust to life with your new baby.
Sessions can focus on whatever feels most important to you at that point in your journey.
In-Home Service
Getting out of the house with a new baby isn't always easy. For mothers who would feel more comfortable receiving support at home, in-home postnatal sessions are available as a separate service.
An in-home session provides the opportunity to have your counselling session in the comfort of your own home, where you can settle in with your baby and talk about how you're doing without having to arrange childcare or pack everything up to leave the house. These visits can be particularly helpful during the early postpartum period when establishing a new routine and adjusting to life with a baby.
In-home sessions are available in the Windsor area.
You Don't Have to Do This Alone
There is so much attention given to preparing for a baby. You deserve support preparing for motherhood, too.
Whether you're taking your first steps toward pregnancy, expecting your baby, or finding your footing in those early weeks and months, GEM is here to provide a place where you can pause, talk, and take care of yourself, too.
Connecting You With Additional Support
Sometimes counselling is only one part of the support a mother needs. If additional care or resources would be helpful, I can help you explore appropriate options and connect you with relevant community and perinatal resources when available.
This may include helping you identify additional mental-health professionals, healthcare providers, community resources, or specialized perinatal supports.
Not sure where to start?
