A little about the person behind the practice…
A wife, mother of two, and someone who genuinely believes that sometimes we all just need a place where we can be honest about how we’re doing. I’ve always been drawn to supporting others, listening without judgment, and helping people feel a little less alone.
My passion for supporting children and youth began long before my career in mental health. Even as a young girl, I dreamed of finding ways to help children who needed support. That passion eventually led me to volunteer at an orphanage in the Dominican Republic and, years later, to co-found the Be a GEM Foundation with my sisters in honour of our mom. Through the Foundation, I have had the opportunity to support children, families, and our local community in many different ways. That work has reinforced something I believe deeply: having someone who truly listens and cares can make a meaningful difference.
I graduated from the University of Windsor in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Sociology, and later completed my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and a member of Postpartum Support International (PSI). I have completed additional specialized training in anxiety, trauma, and perinatal mental health, including PSI’s Perinatal Mood Disorders: Components of Care and Advanced Perinatal Mental Health Psychotherapy trainings.
My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and compassionate. I draw from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused approaches, and acceptance-based strategies, with a particular interest in anxiety, trauma, emotional regulation, and the connection between our mental and physical wellbeing. I believe therapy should be collaborative and tailored to the person sitting in front of me—there is no one-size-fits-all approach.
Supporting Mothers
As a mom myself, I understand that motherhood can bring a whole new mix of emotions, expectations, and challenges. Supporting mothers has become an area I’m especially passionate about, which led me to create my Maternal Wellness Program — designed to support mothers through pregnancy, postpartum, and the many transitions of motherhood. I want mothers to have a space where they can talk honestly about how they’re doing—not just how everyone else is doing. [Learn more →]
Supporting Children & Youth
My passion for children and youth continues to be at the heart of my work. Alongside individual therapy, I created Growing Minds, bringing age-appropriate mental-health education and wellness programming into elementary classrooms from Kindergarten through Grade 8. The goal is to help young people understand their emotions, build healthy coping skills, feel comfortable asking for help, and know that they don't have to navigate difficult experiences alone. I also volunteer with Kids Help Phone and Girl Guides of Canada, reflecting my continued commitment to supporting children, youth, and young adults.
Making Support More Accessible
The community work that began through the Be a GEM Foundation continues to shape my vision for GEM Counselling & Wellness.
I believe financial circumstances shouldn't be another barrier to getting mental-health support. Through the connection between GEM Counselling & Wellness and the Foundation, I am working toward creating opportunities for individuals and families who may otherwise struggle to access care.
No one should have to choose between taking care of their family and taking care of their mental health. [Learn more →]
